NEW Features of the Lion Energy FTB Solar Generator

PASS mode has been upgraded to UPS (uninterruptible power supply) mode

No indication will be given on the screen, but when plugged into external AC power, this input will be “passed” straight to the output (without using the inverter) to avoid putting unnecessary life cycles on your battery and unnecessary strain on the inverter.

Now, switching back and forth between external and internal power is almost instantaneous (less than 20 milliseconds), meaning that your devices won’t lose power when switching from external power to battery backup or vice versa. (Note: The battery must be charged for this to work.)

This generator contains a new external battery pack expansion port

You can now purchase an external 100A/h battery pack to use with your FTB Solar Generator. Whenever the external battery pack is connected, it triples the capacity of the generator, and functions as if you had three internal batteries.

Outputs will drain the external pack first. Once the external pack is empty, it will immediately switch to using the internal battery.

When charging, your unit will fill its internal battery first. When the internal battery is full, it will immediately switch over and start charging the external pack. (Do not try to charge the external pack separately from the generator without using the designated charger provided by Lion Energy.)

The External Battery Pack is sold separately. You can find it here:

This generator now has a better user interface via LCD screen

The user interface will show output power for each set of outputs (120V AC, 12V DC, and USB) and input power when charging.

When an external battery is connected, screen will show the current charge status of both batteries. The screen also shows the current battery temperature.

How to Use Your New Lion Energy FTB Solar Generator

Simple Steps to Create Your Own Power Source

How It Works

Using the Generator as a Power Source

Simply stated, the FTB Solar Generator is a battery that stores power. In the event of an emergency or power outage (or if you're camping, etc), you use the battery to supply electricity to your household or handheld devices.

Simply plug your appliance or device into the appropriate OUTPUT of the battery, and bingo, you have power for that device.

Charging the Battery

You can charge the battery in any of several ways: most obviously, you can charge it from your household electricity. Simply plug the AC adapter into any normal household outlet, and the battery will accept and store the electricity for later use.

If you don't have access to standard power from an outlet (ie, you're in the midst of a power outage, or you're in the middle of the woods), you can use other devices to supply power to the battery.

The most efficient of these methods is to use one or more Solar Panels to capture energy from the sun, and transmit that power into electricity stored in the battery. Although one panel will charge the unit, we recommend at least two panels for maximum charging efficiency.

What You Need

In essence, you only need three components to make your FTB Solar Generator system work perfectly.

First, of course, you need the FTB unit itself. (The unit includes an AC adapter cord, so you're actually all set with just that ... but remember you won't be able to charge the unit if your household power goes out without solar panels or another charging source).

The next component you'll probably want is the solar panel(s), for off-grid charging. If you opt for two (or up to three) panels, they come equipped with an Anderson connector to allow them to be "daisy-chained" together, which simplifies connecting them to the unit for quicker, more efficient charging.

Lastly, we recommend purchasing an extension cord to attach the solar panel(s) to the unit. While not absolutely necessary (the solar panel includes a short cord), this extension cord will make your life much easier in the long run ... giving you some extra "reach" between the panel(s) and the solar generator.

We offer a 21-foot Anderson style extension cord designed specifically for this purpose. You can find it here:

Okay, so let's say you have one FTB Solar Generator, two solar panels, and a 21-foot extension cable. What do you do next?

Using their short cords, connect the solar panels together ("Daisy-Chain"). Using a 21-foot extension cable, plug one end into the existing short cord at a panel, and the other end into the Anderson cable DC input connector on the FTB Solar Generator.

Sit back, relax for a few minutes and watch the digital display register the incoming power, and after it stabilizes (a few minutes perhaps), it will tell you the anticipated time until a full charge is reached.

That's it. You're all set ... ready for just about any power-related situation you may encounter. Including zombies!!
