Quick Start Guide
Unpacking & Inspecting
Harvest Right will send you an email when your order ships. That email will include specific instructions for you to follow to ensure that your unit is undamaged and in good condition. Please follow those instructions. They are for your benefit.
Here’s a sample of the email you will receive from them:
We are glad to inform you that your Harvest Right Freeze Dryer has shipped. Please find attached your delivery order. Please do not accept delivery of your freeze dryer unit until you have inspected it for damage. If there is damage to the freeze dryer, and you accept delivery neither Harvest Right nor the shipping company will be responsible to replace your freeze dryer. You will be responsible.
Please take a few moments to carefully review the important information below concerning the delivery and inspection of your unit.
Your tracking reference is 123456789
FedEx Tracking: 1-866-393-4585
FedEx will be calling you to schedule a delivery time and date- please note that at first, the delivery date on your tracking number is an estimated date, not the actual delivery date. The delivery date is scheduled with you, and it will be updated on your tracking information after scheduled.
It is your responsibility to verify that your new or refurbished freeze dryer shipment arrived with no signs of shipping damage. If you reject the shipment of the freeze dryer, Harvest Right will ship a replacement within one week.
Do not authorize FedEx or another carrier to leave the shipment without a signature. Your delivery must first be opened and inspected, then signed for while the driver waits. The driver is required to wait and will do so for up to 15 minutes while you thoroughly inspect your shipment. While more inspection time should not be necessary, please be advised that the shipping company reserves the right to bill you directly for driver wait time that exceeds 15 minutes.
Important: Occasionally we see freeze dryers damaged during shipment. You should never accept a shipment if the box or its contents appear to have shipping damage.
Check for signs such as tears or dents in the cardboard, packaging, or a damaged pallet. If you notice any marks or damage to the packaging, point these items out to the driver, and ask to further inspect to see if the Freeze Dryer itself has been damaged in transit.
Ask the driver to note the marks/damage for the appropriate documentation. If there is any other packaging added, the shipping carrier may have repackaged it. In this case, ask the driver to inspect. Taking a photo is recommended if there is any concern.
This only takes a few minutes and will assure that you receive your unit in the condition it left Harvest Right. While damage during shipment is unlikely and not very common, it is better to be safe!
By signing the delivery slip you are agreeing that the unit arrived to you undamaged. DO NOT accept delivery if there is noticeable damage to the packaging or the freeze dryer caused by shipping.
Be advised that this is a CURBSIDE DELIVERY ONLY.
If you have any special shipping instructions or needs, or if you live in a rural area where a semi-truck may have an issue delivering the machine to your property, please contact and inform the shipping company IMMEDIATELY with your tracking number to ensure a proper delivery is planned and to prevent any additional delays.
If you would like your freezer dryer delivered into your garage, that option is available for an additional cost, pre-arranged with and billed directly to you from the shipping company. Harvest Right does not arrange nor bill these add-on delivery services.
Thank you again for your purchase and for your time working with us to ensure the safe delivery of your freeze dryer.
On the You Tube Channel Video, there are some valuable comments from folks who are familiar with freight shipping.
Here are a couple noteworthy snippets from one person’s comments, slightly edited by me:
1) Please follow the instructions provided by Harvest Right. You should receive an email from them when your unit ships.
2) Drivers are used to waiting at businesses for items to be inspected. If it’s damaged, the driver likely knows it and may try to pressure you to accept it quickly. Prepare in advance so you can properly inspect / receive the Item. Print out the photos and instructions from Harvest Right, and have a pair of scissors ready. You can show the driver the instructions for receiving your item if need be.
3) If the pallet is stretch wrapped, it could be a sign that the boxes were repackaged, or that it was added by the shipper as a precaution. Remove it. Then proceed as per the instructions. It’s not uncommon for the cartons to get roughed up a bit, but they should not be crushed or ripped. If they are damaged, … take pictures and either reject the shipment or ask the driver If you can open it further and inspect the contents. If he says no, simply reject the shipment.
And another from a different commenter:
It is FedEx’s responsibility to ship safely so if the driver is annoyed, so be it. Harvest Right has paid FedEx to do a job and to do it right. Damaged goods is on them whether you cut all the bands or not. … Please do as Harvest Right suggests or YOU will be out of a freeze drier. If it’s damaged the driver should be prepared to take it back even if he wraps it with shrink wrap. Please do not sign until you verify completely that there is no damage. Period.
Your shipment should look like one of these two images:
