ThermaFuel Is Easy & Safe to Use

Improved Wick Design

We have made some improvements to our ThermaFuel cans and wicks. Our older cans had three or four wicks – we were trying to achieve faster cook times with the increased number of wicks, which would burn hotter and boil faster.

Our new cans have only two wicks, made of a better wick material. These won’t burn as hot as the 3- or 4-wick cans, but we found that using multiple cans allows you to bring water to a boil faster. Then, once the water is boiling, extinguish and remove all but one can, which will maintain the heat level to allow the water to simmer while you cook your food.

Since Legacy meals – like most freeze-dried and dehydrated meals – need only a low simmer to cook, this is a far more fuel-efficient method to prepare your food.

Additionally, our new can and wick design provides a 4-hour burn time per can, whereas our old cans had only a 2.5-hour burn time.

You can expect approximately four to six meals of cooking time per can based on our test results. You’ll see the best results with smaller pot sizes, a good lid and thinner walled pots.

Directions

Unscrew lid. Place the fuel cell in the stove. Light a match and hold flame against a wick for 10 seconds. The flame from the fuel cell will not immediately be seen – the flame starts slowly and builds over the first half minute or so.

Use the flame as long as desired. When you’ve finished cooking, you can extinguish the fuel cell and save it for later use.

To extinguish, carefully place the lid back over the fuel cell. Use tongs or other tool to avoid the flame when placing the lid back over the fuel cell.
